Demetris Robertson

ATLANTA- On Sunday May 1, 2016 the final uncommitted recruit of 2016 gathered around close family, friends, class mates, teachers, and fans near and far to announce his decision on where he was going to college and play football and to further his education. The decision was...DRUM ROLL PLEASE...The University of California Berkeley! Here his position on the field will be wide receiver/corner back-special teams.

Demetris Robertson is a 6'1" 180 pound wide receiver from the Savannah Christian Prep Academy in Savannah, GA. He was the nation's #1 wide receiver with a 4.54 speed and quick first step to returning punts and kicks. Last season he had 107 carries for nine touchdowns and 1,043 yards. Demetris also had a total of four 100+ yard games while catching 12 passes for one touchdown and 126 yards. He had 145 punt return yards off of 10 punts, and totaled 149 kick return yards off of four kickoffs. His average was 121.9 all-purpose yards per game. As a safety playing defense, he had 41 tackles, one pass deflection, and two interceptions. That's pretty impressive for a wide receiver in high school!

Besides football, Robertson was a track & field star and basketball player. Doing this assisted him in winning the 63rd Ashley Dearing Award, an award given to the top tri-sport athlete in Savannah. He was the ninth overall Savannah Christian athlete to win it within the last 39 years.

Back to Sunday's event, please see below why Demetris chose the University of California Berkeley and not the University of Georgia...

“The education was a big part of my decision,” he said. “When I went there, it felt like home. I have a good relationship with all the coaching staffs (at all the schools). That’s where it felt the best for me."
“I’m going to be homesick a lot, but I’ll get over it. My mom will miss me a lot and that’s something she keeps telling me. I just want to do the best for me and my family. I know what my future holds, and I know what I want for my life. I always told myself I’d rather have a million-dollar business than a million-dollar contract in the NFL."

I must also mention that one of the highlights of the afternoon to me was after the revealing of the college, a 74 year old UGA fan walked up to Robertson and congratulated him anyway although he didn't choose to stay home. She also made him put his picture of the California logo down just to take a picture with her in her Georgia sports gear she was dressed in from head to toe.

This concludes how my day went at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Georgia with Demetris Robertson, family, friends, classmates, teachers, and fans near and far. Until next time...STAY TUNED!

2015 College Football Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

ATLANTA- I know that I may be a little late, but it is better late than never! Last week on Wednesday December 30th, The College Football Hall of Fame and Chick-Fil-A Fan Experience celebrated the 2015 College Football Hall of Fame Class. This celebration was also part of the National Football Foundation Salute at the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl on December 31st that was played between the Houston Cougars and Florida State Seminoles in which Houston won 38-24.

There were 13 members inducted into the ceremony. The inductees were: Brian Bosworth, Bob Breuning, Sean Brewer, Ruben Brown, Wes Chandlar, Thom Gatewood, Dick Jauron, Clinton Jones, Lincoln Kennedy, Rob Lytle (his wife Tracy accepted his blade), Michael Payton, Art Still, Jim Tressel. I had a chance to interview Tressel, Bosworth, and Payton and they all three stated how honored they were to be inducted into a category with the many whom has had an impact on college football. Tressel also mentioned that he was numb when he found out about his nomination, and bad boy Bosworth said that he even cried a little. Come to find out, Jim Tressel's father Lee Tressel was also inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1995.

About the College Football Hall of Fame & Chick-Fil-A Fan Experience: It is a 94, 256 square-foot attraction located downtown Atlanta. It is adjacent to Centennial  Olympic Park, Georgia Dome, Georgia World Congress Center, Georgia Aquarium, Georgia Dome, and Philips Arena. Here tourists can experience using the blend of historic college football artifacts  and state-of-the-art interactive multimedia exhibits, shopping in the gift shop that has all of the souvenirs that you can think of, meet new people, eat at Chick-Fil-A, and play in the Chick-Fil-A Fan Skill Zone!

The National Football launched this hall in 1951 to stand as one of the nation's premier sports shrines honoring the game's greatest coaches and players as role models for generations after them. The Atlanta Hall Management, Inc. is the company that partnered with the National Football Foundation in order to make this construction happen. This operation provides a platform for outreach in the community, education, and character development initiatives in the city of Atlanta. It also serves as one of the city's premier special event spaces. For more information on upcoming events, tickets, etc., please visit www.cfbhall.com

That is all I have to say at this moment...thanks for reading! Until next time...

Stepping Outside the Box....

This past Friday my good friend and I locked in an opportunity to come in and shoot promo videos for one of Atlanta's top training facilities. The facility is X3 Sports. It's located in the West Midtown area. X3 was founded in 2007 as a small facility in Marietta, GA focusing on kickboxing, boxing, and mixed martial arts. Expanding to have three locations, yoga, sports training, and boot camp has been added to enhance your fitness, and athletic competition or performance.

The mission for X3 Sports: " Our mission is a genuine desire to help people achieve their goals. We are a results oriented training center that treats each member like family. These are the qualities that have made us successful and the ones that continue to allow us to grow."  This week we are shooting the promo video for X3 trainer of the week , Will. Please be sure to stay tuned for what he specializes in! If you're interested in gaining your strength back, staying healthy, and toning your body you can log onto  http://x3sports.com/ and BOOK YOUR FREE CLASS....again, BOOK YOUR FREE CLASS!

Thanks again for walking my journey into sports with me! This is a life long dream that I have always looked to fulfill during my time here on earth! I am a daddy's girl!...A sports girl at heart! Stay tuned for Will's promo video and other projects that I have coming up. Have a blessed day!!

Weird Superstitions in the Sports World From Fans

I may be a little late, but in the last month or so I have been hearing the craziest things in the sports world. Sometimes these fans come up with the craziest things to say! The first craziest thing is when Serena Williams lost her match and they blamed it on her current boyfriend Drake. I just don't understand how he plays a part. All he did was sit in the stands and support her.

Is Serena not allowed to lose? I understand that she may be the best at tennis but I truly believe that she is allowed to lose every once in a while. You just can't win them all. Even Michael Jordan lost.  I am pretty sure that Drake and Serena both were just shaking their heads. That's all they could do. There is no need to even feed into any of that non-sense because that's all it is. People just come up with the most bizzar things to say just to have something to talk about. How about reaching out to congratulate her anyway on a great match.

The second craziest thing was a 2-in-1. This Ciara and Russell Wilson superstition. First, the DJ for the Seahawks couldn't play a song by Future because it might have made Russell feel a certain type of way. In my opinion, it shouldn't because ain't none of Future's songs about him nor Ciara. Future is one of the hottest rappers out now and his music just hypes everybody up. Speaking of hyping up, I'm pretty sure that some of the Seahawks team and some fans can agree with me. The next thing was when the Seahawks started off with an 0-2 record. The fans blamed it on Russell not being able to concentrate because of Ciara.

As a quarterback, he should be able to separate his game mind frame from his personal. When he is on that field, Ciara needs to be non-existent for 48 minutes. He has business to take care of when it comes to winning games! Ciara on the other hand, is doing her job of being the supportive girlfriend by showing her face at the games. People just need someone to point their finger at not even considering how crazy they are going to even sound or look after they do it. Russell has to take better control and the defense needed to help him out. He couldn't win both games alone.

I just feel bad when things like this is said and then it just spread all over the internet like wildfire. I am not a big fan of gossip and slander. I'm pretty sure no one is, but it just burns me up inside. It's like these athletes cannot date anyone famous. they just have to stick to someone who is not in the limelight and it's not right. It's their choice to date whomever they want. The fans and media just need to leave them alone and let them live their lives.  I wonder if this turns any other athlete away from wanting to date anyone famous? It wouldn't if I was an athlete. I'm just saying. That's my rant/thought for today...Stay tuned for more with Helen Knows Her Sports!
